LARGEST IN WORLD AND NOT IN INDIA? SO THEY WANT ONE IN INDIA!!

Angkor Wat (City Temple)(Cambodia)

The largest Sri Maha Vishnu Temple in the world BUT NOT IN INDIA!!!
Angkor Wat (Cambodia)  is not only the largest Hindu Temple, but also one of the wonders of the word. Yet, unknown to many Hindus all around! An architectural marvel and a piece of world heritage.

Angkor Wat (or Angkor Vat) is a temple at Angkor, Cambodia, built for king Suryavarman II in the early 12th century as his state temple and capital city. The largest and best-preserved temple at Angkor, first Hindu, then Buddhist- since its foundation. It has become a symbol of Cambodia, appearing on its national flag.

History
The initial design and construction of the temple took place in the first half of the 12th century, during the reign of Suryavarman II (ruled 1113-c. 1150). Dedicated to Lord Sri Maha Vishnu, it was built as the king's state temple and capital city, with the royal palace located between the temple and the north gate, and the city filling the remainder of the outer enclosure. In the 14th or 15th century the temple was converted to Theravada Buddhist use, which continues to the present day.  The temple's modern name means "City Temple":

A DIPLOMATIC confrontation is looming over the building in India of a replica of Cambodia's massive Angkor Wat, the country's most popular tourist attraction and its national symbol.

The temple in India will be known as Virat Angkor Wat Ram Mandir and come up on 6 hectares of land on the Hajipur-Bidupur road near Ismailpur village in Bihar. The place where the 1,000 million-rupee project will come up has been named as Angkor Nagar. The Bihar Mahavir Mandir Trust has taken up the project. Its construction will take 10 years.

The Cambodian government has described the building of a replica to create the world's largest Hindu shrine on the banks of the Ganges as a ''shameful act'' that could affect its future relationship with India. The director of Sydney University's archaeology project at Angkor Wat, Damian Evans, said Cambodians are predictably outraged about the project, ''as I am sure Indians would be if a nearby country decided to build a clone of the Taj Mahal''.Dr Evans said building a replica showed a ''remarkable lack of cultural sensitivity by this group in India, considering how central Angkor Wat is to Khmer [Cambodian] national identity''.

Angkor Wat was built by King Suryavarman II as his state temple and capital city in the 12th century. Originally the 82-hectare temple complex was dedicated to the Hindu god Vishnu before being used for Buddhist worship after the monarchy converted to Buddhism.
India has many experts to call upon to build the replica, which will be higher than the original and will stand 68 metres above the Ganges near the Bihar capital, Patna. The Indian Angkor will have five storeys and five "shikhars" or pinnacles, like the Cambodian original.
It is estimated that work on the main structure, which will sit on a 16ha site in Vaishali district, will take up to five years, while completing the project could take a decade.
